Nearly 1,000 students and teachers from across China converged on Shanghai University last weekend for the Global Natural History Day 2026 global finals, showcasing their passion for the natural sciences through innovative exhibitions and performances.
The four-day event, which ended on Monday, brought together 387 teams comprising 979 participants from 14 competition regions around China to explore the mysteries of nature through observation, practice and innovation.
"Whether in exhibition works or performance presentations, everything has been truly impressive," said Stephen Beinke, president of the Global Health and Education Foundation.
Beinke said Global Natural History Day is committed to building an open platform where young people worldwide can explore nature, showcase creativity and exchange scientific ideas.
"We hope every participant gains knowledge, friendship and growth through this experience," he added.
Beinke also encouraged young people to maintain their curiosity and enthusiasm for science and natural exploration.
Duan Yong, deputy Communist Party of China secretary at Shanghai University, said that after years of development, Global Natural History Day has evolved into a signature event that inspires passion for natural exploration in young people while cultivating scientific literacy and innovative thinking.
"The outstanding works and creative expressions emerging from this final demonstrate contemporary youth's profound understanding of and infinite passion for the natural sciences," Duan said.
He encouraged contestants to appreciate the importance of harmonious coexistence by respecting and revering nature, while calling on more young people to approach nature and explore science with courage and ambition.
A total of 127 first, 128 second and 131 third prizes were awarded at the finals for exhibition works. The event also recognized organizational excellence, outstanding educators and model institutions that have contributed to youth science education.
During online presentation sessions, expert guests talked about the event's philosophy, presentation standards and scientific exploration, highlighting outstanding works from all 14 participating regions.
The competition examined not only natural science knowledge but also emphasized the cultivation of comprehensive abilities and practical skills, with the aim of enabling students to transform personal interests into scientific research achievements through sustained study and in-depth exploration.
