Ningbo, in Zhejiang province, is known for being a tranquil, picturesque coastal city where intellectuals and influential figures have left rich cultural legacies. It also hosts magnificent cultural sites, such as Tianyige, a private library-turned-public museum that houses a plethora of ancient books, classic texts and documents.
A prosperous city in the booming Yangtze River Delta, Ningbo also fosters a thriving contemporary art scene, as evidenced by its many activities and events, including the recently concluded Ningbo Contemporary 2025.
Held from Oct 31 to Nov 4, the event attracted galleries, artists and art professionals from 13 cities who shared recent developments in the field.
One of the highlights was a section displaying the works of four noted artists — Xu Jiang brought his iconic sunflower installations; Gautier Deblonde's Atelier series was first shown in the city; and the vanguard explorations of Assadour Markarov and Li Peng through sculptural installations.
