On Wednesday morning, Chongqing University invited 700 students and faculty members on two campuses in the municipality to watch a livestream of the V-Day military parade staged at Tian'anmen Square in Beijing.

The grand gathering in the capital commemorated the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and the World Anti-Fascist War.

"After watching the parade, I realized that the strength of our nation lies not only in the resolve of our soldiers but also in our powerful military weapons," said Ke Xin, a senior at the university's School of Civil Engineering.

Chongqing endured devastating bombings by the Japanese during the war "when China's air power was weak", said Qian Feng, associate professor of history at Chongqing University. "But over the past 80 years, China has experienced a remarkable transformation."

He added that the military parade showcased a formidable array of technologically advanced weaponry, underscoring the significant achievements in national defense made under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

"Many students and teachers at Chongqing University work on research closely related to national defense and infrastructure, so watching the military parade inspires us to excel in our fields and add value to our work," Qian said.
