Two members of the seventh batch of Chinese medical team in Burkina Faso — Tie Bi, deputy director of the Department of Interventional Medicine of the First Hospital of Lanzhou University, and Yang Xiangxiang, the team's attending physician — assisted medical workers from CHU de Tengendogo in Burkina Faso in successfully performing cerebral angiography through the femoral artery for a patient with cerebral arteriovenous malformation.
It marked the first cerebral angiography procedure at the hospital, symbolizing a breakthrough in neurointerventional diagnosis and treatment.
It can bring hope for emergency and critical patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic cerebrovascular diseases.
Taking the medical team as core, over 10 medical workers, including neurosurgeons, cardiologists, and nursing teams from CHU Yalgado Ouédraogo and CHU de Tengendogo, participated in the angiography.
A multidisciplinary team meeting was held through the MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) model, inviting Professor Guo Zhilin, director of Neurosurgery at the Ninth People's Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and Professor Sylvain, director of Neurosurgery at CHU Yalgado Ouédraogo, to evaluate and discuss the patient's condition.
After assessing the vascular structure of the lesion area through cerebral angiography, the medical team formulated the best treatment plan.
Three days after the angiography, Guo conducted the craniotomy for vascular malformation excision at CHU Yalgado Ouédraogo.
