China's Ambassador to the United Kingdom Zheng Zeguang made a visit to Aberdeen, Scotland, on Friday and Saturday, where he called for stronger China-UK mutually beneficial cooperation, as China deepens reform to advance modernization.
During his meeting on Friday with the Depute Provost of Aberdeen Steve Delaney and co-leaders of Aberdeen City Council Christian Allard and Ian Yuill, Zheng said China will continue to bring fresh opportunities to countries worldwide, including the UK.
As the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China concluded in July, Zheng highlighted that the resolution adopted of more than 300 reform measures will further invigorate society, promote high-quality development, and expand high-standard opening-up, thus benefiting the world.
Zheng pointed out that China and Aberdeen have broad cooperation potential and prospects in areas including energy transition, low-carbon development, economy and trade, education, tourism, and more.
Aberdeen, which is located in northeast Scotland, is the third most populous Scottish city. The discovery of North Sea oil spurred the development of the oil industry, making it a major component of the city's economy, alongside shipping, deep-sea fishing, agriculture, and other sectors.
Both the ambassador and the depute provost welcomed enhanced exchanges and expanded cooperation between China and Aberdeen.
Zheng said China's embassy and consulates in the UK are willing to work with Aberdeen to create more platforms for collaboration between businesses, schools, and other sectors.
Delaney echoed the sentiment, saying Aberdeen places a high priority on its exchanges and cooperation with China and that the city looks forward to attracting more Chinese investors, tourists, and students for business, sightseeing, and academic pursuits.
On Saturday, during Zheng's visit to the CNOOC (China National Offshore Oil Corporation) Petroleum Europe Limited headquarters in Aberdeen, he re-emphasized the importance of enhancing China-UK cooperation, particularly in the energy field.
As both China and the UK are making efforts to scale up green development, the ambassador encouraged the company to strengthen dialogues and pragmatic cooperation with its UK counterparts in driving energy transition and ensuring energy security, thereby contributing to global interests.
Pan Yiyong, managing director of CNOOC Petroleum Europe Limited, said the company will facilitate its cooperation with British partners and fulfill its corporate social responsibilities.
