Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, answers questions about the country's foreign policy and diplomatic relations at a press conference on Thursday during the the second session of the 14th National People's Congress, China's top legislature.

On major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics

China will maintain stable relations with major powers, join hands with its neighboring countries for progress, and strive for revitalization with the Global South. (Read more)

On China-Russia ties

China and Russia have forged a new paradigm of major country relations that differs from the obsolete Cold War approach, and strive for lasting good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation on the basis of non-alliance, non-confrontation and are not targeting any third party. (Read more)

On community with shared future for mankind

Building a community with a shared future for mankind has developed from a conceptual proposition to a scientific system, from a Chinese initiative to an international consensus, and from a promising vision to practical outcomes. (Read more)

US must be rational about China

Beijing urges Washington "to be clear-eyed about the trend of the times, view China's development objectively and rationally, engage in exchanges with China proactively and pragmatically, and act to fulfill its commitments". (Read more)

On global governance

China is ready to collaborate with other countries to make global governance more just and equitable. Wang advocated for an equal and orderly multi-polar world and inclusive economic globalization that benefits all. (Read more)

Palestine-Israel conflict a tragedy, disgrace

It's "a tragedy for humanity and a disgrace for civilization" that the humanitarian disaster caused by the Palestine-Israel conflict fails to end, Wang Yi said, urging the international community to act for an immediate ceasefire. (Read more)

On hotspot issues

China has found the Chinese way to address hotspot issues featuring commitments to non-interference in internal affairs, to political settlement, to objectivity and impartiality, and a commitment to addressing both symptoms and root causes. (Read more)

On China-EU relations

China and the European Union should be characterized as partners with cooperation being the defining feature, autonomy being the key value and win-win outcomes being the future of the relationship. (Read more)

Peaceful reunification with Taiwan

"Our policy is quite clear — we will continue to strive for peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity. Our bottom line is also quite clear — we will never allow Taiwan to be separated from the motherland." (Read more)

Visa-free policy for six countries

China will grant a visa-free policy to Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg on a trial basis starting on March 14. Beijing also hopes that more countries will offer Chinese citizens visa facilitation. (Read more)

On South China Sea

Differences regarding the South China Sea should be properly managed and resolved through dialogue and consultation between states directly involved, while peace at sea should be jointly upheld by China and ASEAN members, Wang Yi said. (Read more)

On AI barriers

Wang Yi warned against practices of "building a small yard with high fence" in artificial intelligence, saying that doing so would be a new historic mistake that hinders the technological development of various nations. (Read more)

FM reiterates support to Africa

China will continue to support Africa in its self-driven development and faster modernization, and hopes that all sides will pay more attention to, and increase input for Africa's development, as China has done, Wang Yi said. (Read more)

On Korean Peninsula

Anyone undermining peace and stability will pay a heavy price. Anyone trying to use the Korean Peninsula issue to revive the retrogressive Cold War confrontation will be held accountable by history. (Read more)

FM calls for stronger UN

The role of the United Nations should be strengthened, not weakened, and the status of the UN must be upheld, not replaced. Beijing upholds that there is only one set of rules, that is the basic norm of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. (Read more)

BRI an 'opportunity for all'

Wang Yi reaffirmed China's pledge to make the Belt and Road Initiative "a lasting opportunity shared by all," saying that the nation will continue to promote physical, institutional and people-to-people connectivity. (Read more)

The Global South is no longer the "silent majority", but a key force for reforming the international order, and China will always act as a crucial force for development and prosperity of the Global South. (Read more)

On consular service

China handled more than 80,000 cases with strengthened consular protection efforts, issued over 6,000 alerts and evacuated thousands of Chinese citizens from Sudan, Palestine, Israel and other places over the past year. (Read more)
