The Chinese TV drama Minning Town, about poverty alleviation in the country, has been translated into Arabic and has been shown in several Arab countries. El Batoul Nejjaoui, a young translator from Morocco, is one of those who has rendered the series into Arabic.

In the China Daily program My China Surprise she says that with her work she is eager to promote cultural exchanges between China and the Arab world.

"I hope to translate great Chinese works into Arabic so that more Arabs can understand China, Chinese culture and Chinese people," says Batoul, whose Chinese name, Baoyun, means precious cloud.

Ningxia Hui autonomous region, where she has lived for the past four years, is like a second home to her, she says, and she has visited many places in China.

She has been learning Chinese for more than seven years, and she says this has helped give her a deep appreciation of the country's culture.

Two other great lessons that China that given her are that "Roads lead to riches" and that "Science and technology constitute a primary productive force", she says. The Belt and Road Initiative has delivered tangible economic opportunities to the Arab world, especially in building infrastructure, she says.
