Luoyang, Henan province, launched the first combined rail-sea transport service on Saturday to Casablanca, Morocco, Yituo (Luoyang) Logistics Co said.
A cargo train loaded with motorcycles left Dongfanghong (Luoyang) International Land Port for Qingdao, Shandong province, on Saturday. The motorcycles were produced by Luoyang North Enterprises Group Co.
About 45 days after the train arrives in Qingdao, the cargo, valued at 3.5 million yuan ($488,600), will be shipped to Casablanca.
Huang Xiaokang, general manager of Yituo (Luoyang) Logistics Co, said the service provides a stable logistics passage amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which has raised uncertainty for road transport.
"The freight rail services improve transport efficiency and lower logistics costs," he said.
Dongfanghong (Luoyang) International Land Port said it reached container throughput of 17,716 20-foot equivalent units for the first three quarters this year, an increase of about 40 percent year-on-year.
