A magnitude-6.0 earthquake rocked Luxian county, Sichuan province, at 4:33 am on Thursday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The epicenter was monitored at 29.2 degrees north latitude and 105.34 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 10 km.
The earthquake left three dead and 60 injured, with 3 badly hurt, as per reports received at 8:30 am. A total of 6,904 people have been evacuated. Thirty-five houses have collapsed and the Luzhou Bullet Train Station was shut down, according to the publicity department of the Luzhou municipal committee of the Communist Party of China.
Luxian is under the administration of Luzhou city.
Approved by the provincial government, the earthquake relief headquarters of Sichuan has activated a level-II response, the second highest in China's four-tier earthquake emergency response system.
After the quake, the Luzhou city has launched a level-I emergency response and sent personnel for disaster investigation and rescue.
Further rescue is under way.
