About a week before Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, Sergii Kamyshev, the Ukrainian ambassador to China, paid a visit to The Vitality of Art, an ongoing Spring Festival-themed art exhibition at the National Art Museum of China, along with all staff members of the Ukrainian embassy in Beijing, on Feb 4.
"The past decades have witnessed many cultural exchanges between Ukraine and China, and the Ukrainian embassy in Beijing has also forged a close friendship with the National Art Museum of China," said the ambassador.
"By visiting the art exhibition, I wish to convey our best wishes to Chinese people. I hope that Ukraine and China can beat the COVID-19 pandemic in the Year of the Ox," he added.
Holding a red banner carrying a line -- Ukrainian embassy in Beijing wishes Chinese people a happy Spring Festival, the Ukrainian diplomats posed for a souvenir picture in front of the main building of the art museum after viewing the grand exhibition that occupies all display spaces on the museum's first floor and runs until March 14.
The Ukraine diplomats' visit "adds a new dimension to the Spring Festival-themed art exhibition that not only celebrates the advent of the Year of Ox but also eulogizes the global efforts to fight the COVID-19," said Wu Weishan, dean of the National Art Museum of China.
2021 marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a strategic partnership between China and Ukraine, and the year 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. "The National Art Museum of China will work with the Ukrainian embassy in Beijing to further bilateral cultural exchanges in the coming years," said Wu, who himself is a famed sculptor.
One of Wu's signature works The Door to Hearts: A Dialogue between Taras Shevchenko and Du Fu was incepted on the campus of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv on Dec 14, 2017.
Widely considered to be a token of friendship between the two peoples, the sculptural piece features two literary giants in the history of the two countries, the 19th century Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko and Tang Dynasty (618-907) poet Du Fu, portrayed in the form of two books standing in parallel and thus looking like a door.
