Youth is a beautiful thing that nearly all the people want to save when they inevitably step into the phase of middle age. Yet experience and wisdom, gained at the expense of youth, can let people shine from inside out. And that is the charm of senior citizens, who have walked the way young people are walking and tasted all the sweetness and sorrows in life that the youngsters will face.
Fashion industry, seemingly a circle often unfriendly to old people, has to surrender to a group of aged models. They sometimes can bring out the essence of a design in a more dashing style than youngsters.
As the traditional Chinese festival, Chongyang, which is marked to show respect to seniors, falls on Oct 17, it's time to take a look at the unique beauty of these old models.
Wang Deshun
Age: 82
Wang impressed audience by his flying white hair and tough look, which gives him an air of senior kung fu master in legend. Starring in many films and TV series, the actor also shines on the runway.
Zhang Shuangli
Age: Unknown
As a professional actor, Zhang has often been called a fashion pioneer in recent years. He is often compared with Nick Wooster, another fashion icon who was born in 1960.
China Machado
Born in 1929, died at age 86
China Machado, or Noelie Machado, worked as a fashion model and TV producer in the US. She was the first non-white model to appear in a major American fashion magazine, Harper's Bazaar's February 1959 issue. She was still active in the fashion circle in her 80s.
Carmen Dell'Orefice
Age: 87
She is one of those people who start to shine since young age and continue to shine when they become old. The elegant model also once walked the runway of haute couture designs by Chinese designer Guo Pei.
Benedetta Barzini
Age: 75
An Italian actress and model, Barzini began her fashion career in 1963. You can still see her in major fashion shows in recent years, as her grey hair and wrinkles never stopped her being a professional model.
