Fans or not of Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, LeBron James or Kobe Bryant, they united to fight online against Kris Wu, a Chinese pop star, and his 33 million Weibo followers on Wednesday.

Wu posted a comment on his Weibo account blaming Hupu, a Chinese online sports forum, for defaming him and his music on Wednesday, and said that he will write a diss track to fight back.

Hupu responded to the post by posting more mocking videos, and this made the battle worse between the 'straight-guy-dominated' Hupu users-JRs (the abbreviation of Jiaren 家人, meaning family member in Chinese)-and the enthusiastic Kris Wu fans-Meigeni (meaning everyone of you in Chinese).

The original fuse was a video of Kris Wu's accompaniment-reduced live show posted on Hupu forum early Wednesday morning. The post was greeted with taunts and that rang the alarm bells among the fans of Kris Wu.

Weibo users must be familiar with this. Referring the name of a pop star on one's own page will possibly attract fans' warm-hearted introductory comments with his dashing photos, or furious abuse, if it's anything bad about their idol. However, besides sports, Hupu is also an area of gossip and spoofing.

As one of the mentors of Rap of China, a sensational talent show which recently came back with the second season, Kris Wu was the main topic of discussion for days. His look, his music and his new mantra 'skr' after 'do you have freestyle' in the first season became controversial and went viral.

A former basketball trainee, attendee at NBA All-Star Game, ambassador of the 52th NFL Super Bowl, Wu's tag shares something in common with Hupu's sports theme, while he is also one of the most discussed pop stars in 'How's his basketball skills' and 'Which star you most dislike your girl friend to follow' topics on the forum.

The followers of Hupu's Weibo account rose to 760,000 from 660,000 in the one-day battle. To cash in on the buzz, Shihuo, a built-in online store on Hupu, launched a freestyle competition with a Supreme T-shirt as the prize.
