Lexus China's marketing and public relations chief Izzy Zhu has resigned, and Toyota's premium arm has not said who will take over his job, Tencent reported on Sunday.

The report said he has submitted a letter of resignation but Zhu said he has not decided if he will continue working in the automotive segment.

Zhu joined Lexus in 2014 after working at US e-commerce giant Amazon for about seven months. Before that, he was a senior executive at BMW's Mini brand.

Lexus sold a record number of 109,150 cars in China last year, a 25.6 percent growth year-on-year. It was the first time it has realized the sales goal set in 2011.

Lexus entered the Chinese market in 2004 and was one of few premium brands that has not localized its production.
